A long time visitor to the games – in fact, Douglas claims to have only missed one since 1938 – Douglas is deeply involved in the local community, including helping to form the Friends of BLESMA group.
He also worked for David Philips as an apprentice compositor at the Strathearn Herald, as well as serving on Crieff Burgh Council, latterly as Depute Provost.
And in 2008, Douglas was awarded an MBE for nearly 60 years of service to the Royal British Legion Scotland.
Chairman of Crieff Highland Gathering, David Gillies, explained: “It is very pleasing to honour a life-long supporter of Crieff Highland Games.
“Douglas has given so much to BLESMA, Royal British Legion and Erskine’s and I am sure he will make an excellent chieftain at this year’s games.”
Speaking on becoming this year’s chieftain, Douglas said: “I am thrilled to bits and delighted at being asked.”
