Crieff Highland Gathering Limited are delighted to announce that the Chieftain at this year’s gathering will be Brigadier Melville Jameson CBE, Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross. Although now retired from active military service, Brigadier Jameson retains an important role in the area as the Queen’s personal representative for Perth & Kinross.
After growing up near Blairgowrie and being educated at Glenalmond College, Brigadier Jameson has enjoyed a distinguished military career, serving with Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and as a former commander of the Highland Brigade. He then went on to become producer of the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo from 1994 to 2006.
In accepting the Chieftain’s role at Crieff Highland Gathering, Brigadier Jameson follows on from a former holder of the role of Lord Lieutenant, the late Sir Major David Butter KCVO who was chieftain in 1983. .
CHG Chairman, David Gillies: “We are honoured that Brigadier Jameson has accepted our invitation to be Chieftain at this year’s Highland Games, and it will be a pleasure to welcome such a distinguished guest. The fact that such a high profile local figure has agreed to support Crieff Highland Gathering re-affirms the fact that it is one of the most important events in the cultural calendar. Obviously, as a former director of Edinburgh’s Tattoo, Brigadier Jameson will have plenty experience of high quality events, and we are sure we will not disappoint at Crieff Highland Games.”
