Canadian Teenage Pipe Band to Honour 2008 Chieftain

The Directors of Crieff Highland Gathering are delighted to announce that the Ogden Legion Pipe Band from Calgary, Canada, will march from James Square down King Street and into the Market Park where they will salute the Games Chieftain, John Beattie.

The Ogden Legion Pipe Band was formed in 1972 to provide a focused activity for teenagers. It is sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, Ogden Branch #154 in Southeast Calgary, Canada. The band draws it members from the greater Calgary area.

They have been the Grade IV Provincial Champions for the past four consecutive years and Provincial Grade 5 Champions prior to that. The band has also won major awards and honours in Canada and Scotland. The band has graduated many skilled pipers and drummers who continue to play in the various adult bands in the province. Several have graduated directly to the World Class Grade I Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band.

The band travels several times per season to band and solo competitions throughout Western Canada. It is committed to attending the World Piping Championships in Glasgow, Scotland every two to three years and will be competing in Glasgow on 16th August this year prior to competing at Crieff. They will also be competing at North Berwick International Highland Games on 9th August and Perth Highland Games on 10th August.
