John was a Rugby Internationalist and was capped twenty five times for Scotland, once as captain. He toured with the British Lions to South Africa in 1980, New Zealand in 1983 and played for the Lions against the Rest of the World in 1986. He was in the last Scottish team to beat England at Twickenham in 1983 and the team that beat England by the record score (33-6) in 1986.
John is now a sports commentator and presenter on BBC radio and television presenting Sports Weekly on Radio Scotland every Saturday at nine o’ clock.
He also writes for The Herald, Scottish Rugby Magazine, The Sunday Herald and BBC Online.
