CUTTING THE CABER

Crieff Highland Gathering is to get a new caber for the local heavyweight competition.

The caber was selected from a secret sheltered location in Glen Tilt on the Atholl Estates by Gathering Directors Colin Grassick, George Nicoll (the Heavyweight convenor) and Bobby Millar.

Glen Tilt has been a source of cabers for many years as the trees grow tall and straight, essential for a caber. The Directors were assisted by forester Sean Marsh who then felled and peeled the trunk.

The new caber will replace the existing one which developed a large crack and almost split during the 2009 competition. It will hopefully last many years.

The purchase of the new caber is being sponsored by Grassicks of Perth.
