Ohio Twinning

The Directors of Crieff Highland Gathering have been approached by a prestigious Highland Games in the United States of America with a view to setting up a twinning agreement.

Crieff Chairman, John MacWilliam, was contacted by the event’s organisers who specifically selected Crieff because it is widely regarded in the States as Scotland’s Premier Gathering.

Crieff Highland Gathering already welcomes many visitors from the United States to Crieff every year, but it is hoped that this agreement would see many more making a special trip to attend the home of the Scottish heavyweight Championship.

In addition, the Ohio organisers are hoping that their dancing and piping champions can make a special journey to compete at Crieff, and in return, Crieff’s Champions would make a reciprocal paid visit to Ohio; a fantastic incentive for both country’s competitors.

The Ohio Scottish Games which take place on the 4th Saturday of June in Wellington attract huge crowds and events include a traditional mix of dancing, pipe bands and athletics.  It also includes a Gaelic Mod and a “Kilted Mile” race!

Crieff Gathering’s Directors already have an eye on 2009 “The Year of Homecoming” and this opportunity very much fits the bill with encouraging overseas visitors to “come home” to Scotland.
