Royal Chieftain

HRH Prince William, Earl of Strathearn

The Crieff Highland Gathering is honoured to have His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales as our Royal Chieftain. The importance of the Crieff Gathering as one of the top highland gatherings in the world was endorsed by this royal patronage.

HRH Prince William, or to give him his correct title when in Scotland - His Royal Highness the Earl of Strathearn – agreed to be the Crieff Highland Gatherings Royal Chieftain in May 2013. This is the highest honour that the Gathering can provide to any individual, and it is unlikely to be granted to anyone else in the future of the Gathering.

During the Royal Visit to Crieff and Strathearn in 2013 he accepted the title/patronage offered by the Gathering from the Chairman. He received a unique solid gold Crieff Highland Gathering Badge and a balmoral bonnet with two eagles’ feathers which he will wear when attending the Gathering. The significance of the eagles feathers are that it follows highland clan traditions that the Chieftains wear the feathers to highlight their importance.
